Yakitori at Nishi Azabu Gonpachi

The Nishi Azabu Gonpachi is more famously known as the “Kill Bill restaurant”

It is the place that inspired the Kill Bill Vol. 1 fight scene of the Bride and the Crazy 88s at the House of Blue Leaves. It is a tourist destination in itself, and the restaurant has a predominantly foreign clientele. Upon entering the restaurant, one immediately feel a traditional old-style Japanese ambiance filled with dark wood, rustic tables, and lamp decors hung around.

The food here includes the usual Izakaya fare such as Yakitori, Special Skewers, Tempura, Seafood, and Rice Bowls. Their dishes are quite expensive given the status of the restaurant. We ordered Yakitori sticks as it is one of their specialties. My favorite Yakitori sticks from Gonpachi are: Torimomo (Chicken Thigh ¥270), Bonjiri (Chicken Tail ¥220), Torikawa (Chicken Skin ¥190), Asupara Bekon (Asparagus wrapped in bacon ¥350).

They also have a special skewer, the Foie Gras yakitoriwith balsamic sauce topped with fresh strawberries (¥1,250). Overall, it was a great dining experience with great food dining in a warm Japanese interior.

Gonpachi also has other branches within Tokyo like in G-zone, Ginza.
