During our trip to Arashiyama Kyoto, we stumbled upon Saganoyu, an odd cafe minutes away from Saga Arashiyama station. Saganoyu was originally a public bath called “Sagayu” in 1923 and was transformed into a cafe back in 2006. It is interesting that interiors of the public house were preserved, retaining the wall tiles, mirrors, and faucets. We ordered their Kisetsu no Yama Curry Rice with Cheese (season’s curry rice) as well as the Tofu Pasta served with 3 kinds of spices (matcha powder, shoyu powder, and mustard). Their good food and cool ambiance make it a great place to start your Arashiyama adventure or take a nice rest.
ACCESS: around a minute walk south of Saga-Arashiyama station.
